A Ton of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season offer a plethora of pursuits much better than checking the latest news: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and employing patience techniques to not yelling at family members. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy news items surfaced over the holidays, and if you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Perhaps the biggest revelation, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop further production. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which is seen as a good sign. But, the key visual for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, by now, they are probably trolling the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series showed it maintained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now everyone is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will very likely debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the release of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not been disclosed yet.
