Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
