A National Palette and Historic Symbol

The fresh branding uses a patriotic design to echo the UK flag and will be rolled out on locomotives, at railway stations, and across its website and app.

Notably, the logo is the recognisable twin-arrow design currently used by National Rail and originally designed in the mid-20th century for British Rail.

A Introduction Timeline

The implementation of the design, which was created by the department, is expected to happen gradually.

Passengers are set to begin noticing the freshly-liveried services on the UK rail network from the coming spring.

During the month of December, the branding will be showcased at prominent stations, such as London Bridge.

The Journey to Renationalisation

The proposed law, which will allow the creation of Great British Railways, is currently moving through the legislative process.

The government has argued it is bringing back into public ownership the railways so the network is "owned by the people, operating for the passengers, not for private shareholders."

Great British Railways will bring the running of train services and tracks and signals under a single organisation.

The government has stated it will combine 17 different organisations and "cut through the frustrating red tape and lack of accountability that continues to plague the railways."

App-Based Features and Current Public Control

The introduction of Great British Railways will also feature a new app, which will enable customers to see timetables and reserve journeys free from additional fees.

Passengers with disabilities users will also be have the option to use the app to request support.

Multiple franchises had already been taken into public control under the former administration, including Southeastern.

There are now 7 operating companies already in public control, representing about a one-third of journeys.

In the past year, c2c have been brought into public ownership, with further franchises expected to be added in the coming years.

Official and Sector Response

"This is not simply a new logo," said the Transport Secretary. It signifies "a transformed service, leaving behind the frustrations of the previous system and concentrated solely on offering a reliable public service."

Industry leaders have welcomed the government's commitment to bettering the passenger experience.

"We will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to facilitate a successful handover to the new system," a senior figure added.
