Tributes Continue for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the pair.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt able to share openly about his profound loss.
"Sufficient time has passed that I can now put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the production, remarking that he cannot recall "a single day without mirth".
"This story is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob cherished deeply. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes expressed.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a incredible duo would be an understatement. My heart still pangs every time I think of you." He concluded with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a different tribute, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with everyone, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Sealed
Recently, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to bar the release of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, after an appeal from the LAPD.
A legal directive issued a restriction on the cases to prohibit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the result of homicide, with a public database citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the tragedy, public individuals offered varying comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making provocative remarks that were met with immediate backlash by numerous public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his voice to the critics recently. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan described the statements as "shocking" and implied they demonstrated a concerning deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan concluded by proposing that an adviser should have stepped in when the decision to weigh in on the tragedy was made.
